FamiliesRock! Cliff Show

FamiliesRock! presents The Guy Forsyth Band at Antones

An early show for Families with kids
glow sticks, flashlights, light show, fog, and video projection

FamiliesRock! comes together with two of Austin's greatest Live Music legends: Antones 'Home of the Blues since 1975' and The Guy Forsyth band ("Best Male Vocalist" 2005).

This is a kick ass break for Families with kids to show their enthusiasm for great Live Music in killer venues!  You can't get a better local show than this.  Ya'll.

FamiliesRock! says: Come with your Family to Antone's and all your wildest dreams will come true...

Just got this feedback from the show...

A father told us of his joy watching his 6yo(?) daughter having the time of her life ~ she was up on stage dancing wildly, playing air guitar, and screaming with the mamas and babies during the FamiliesRock! segment of hard rock videos, lights, fog, and glowsticks. He told me she was having the time of her life... she saw, felt, and heard the music this night... she's deaf and has never experienced music like this. FamiliesRock! happy weeps. She's adopted from a third world country orphanage were soon after many of her friends at the orphanage died and she lives deaf. Deaf Future. More later.

We also got the usual feedback about being too loud, no seats, 'rock on' (devil horns) fingers...

so you think you can tell heaven from hell -Pink Floyd

COMMENTS?

August 20, 2006

Hey there FamiliesRock!'ers ~ thanks for a great and successful night. The Antones club was thrilled with the turnout, energy, and passion that Families with kids brought to the live music and Rock n Roll scene in Austin.

During our pre-show jitters, getting ready to go setup at the club, we did our habitual Family prayer, applauded the universe, and were greeted by Love Just Is. Yeah, Rock n Roll can be that mushy too... you were with us and we love you all ~ Justis, Elijah, Faith, Salem, Brye...

so we jump in the tour bus and head to the venue...

Eternal thanks, love, and gratitude to Cliff for inspiring this show and strategy on April 22 outside his club with Guy (2am).

FamiliesRock! enjoyed some great publicity for this show on KXAN with Jim Swift...

 ....>

FamiliesRock! with Guy Forsyth was also chosen as a 'Best Bet' by the local paper and their website.

Thanks sooo much to Antones night club, Guy Forsyth, Rob Hooper (HOOP-AHHHH!!!), Josh Gravelin, Colin Brooks, Mark Addison, the new guy on guitar (?sorry...), James Duvall, Charles (chuck?) and the Antones bartenders, security, and staff, Susan Antone, David Cotton, Kathleen Knox, Jim Swift, KXAN, Austin American Statesman, Austin360.com, the BlacksheepFamily, the unpluggedfamily, the extremefamily, the barenakedfamily, JD and band, and all those others out there that have helped to make this possible (you know who you are and we're too psyched to remember right now).

As always with FamiliesRock! ~ kids being productive...

why would women wanna work? -Sunny (10yo responding to homeschool question about the women's movement)

HOOP-AHHHH!

Ladies and Gentlemen, er, ladies ~ Josh Gravelin...

show prep and setup went smoothly

Intentionally less seating, so get up an dance...with your kids...

Families lining up around 5p (doors at 5:30). The line ended up at the alley around the corner about 60 yards long. Once the doors were open, the stream kept coming in...

Yep, line made it past here... when's the doors open? 5:30. It's past 5:30. The band's still setting up, bye... -Kesley (11yo welcoming Families in line with video).

... the band's still setting up after the doors open. Such Rock Stars those Guy Forsyth guys...

merch did well ~ first 30 Families got 'free rock show essentials'.

The door guy tells us of a parent that looks at their children and says: welcome to a bar! How great is it that the first time those children go to a bar it's with their parents to party together as a Family to a rock show with some killer live music? It's great.

and the Families came in and sat down... Some voiced frustration in the lack of chairs...

But not for long. FamiliesRock! presented some Rock Show Fan School which does not include sitting and behaving. FYI: Do NOT come to a FamiliesRock! Show to sit down and be quiet! We worked the crowd into a frenzy with some rock show videos while trying to kill time to the bands 6:30 show time. Some left because the music was being played too loud ~ what they may have missed is that the parents and kids were much louder.

The frenzied mob began shouting and chanting 'We want Guy! We want Guy!' and the band couldn't resist starting the show earlier than planned (the band did this early show for FamiliesRock! before their scheduled 9p full show ~ that's a hard working band committed to helping FamiliesRock!).

Live music ~ not just for drunks anymore! -Guy Forsyth

And FamiliesRock! with Guy Forsyth!

The crowd goes wild, the band finishes their FamiliesRock! set, and the crowd quietly begins to leave?!?

Oh contrair mofrair ~ FamiliesRock! emcees an encore and Guy Forsyth band has to postpone dinner to feed the FamiliesRock!'n frenzy!

600 people. Three childless adults. Clubs happy. Bands happy. Bartenders tipped. Families smiling. Parents dancing with their kids. FamiliesRock!

ok then. see ya next time.
