Love Just Is ~ Serving Families

FamiliesRock! pursued Vallejo ruthlessly for years to do an early rock show special for Families. You see, Vallejo is a band of brothers using their Family name as the band name and a premier rock band headlining major venues late with the rare earlier appearance at very packed festivals and events. They finally were able to set a date for Families ~ April 14, 2007 at Antones. The show is gonna go!

Weeks before the show, we learned that our dear friend and major supporter of FamiliesRock! got a nasty scary cancer. In January he had a little cancer removed and in late March they removed a bunch of scary stuff in his lymphs under his arm. IsaacHasWhat? Shit. Now what?

After much consulting with friends and Family, we decided to turn the Vallejo show into a benefit for the Lehr Family and pass a Families 'Rock' around the country to help Families, Isaac's first...

figured whatever Family lives in this house won't miss a rock, so we took one...

The house was full of rocks. Apparently they showed up with a dumptruck one day and have been trying to put them in order ever since. We never see the people... we would've asked... so we stole the one on the top right.

Wrote on it...

And turned it into a flyer and a promotion...

Saturday April 14, FamiliesRock! for for the Lehr Family with Vallejo (Rock, Latin) at Antones with James Speer Band (Pop, R&B, Rock).

Isaac is a father of four, husband, friend and one of the greatest Family men we know. At 34 he has recently had tumors removed and the statistics suck. The Families ‘Rock’ was introduced on stage at a Saturday April 14 early hard rock'n FamiliesRock! Vallejo show ~ a literal ‘Rock’ to be relayed by Families that are signing up in numbers around the country to ‘carry the burden’ of Families in need. Families will work together helping satisfy the needs of this Family and others while walking the Families ‘Rock’ around Austin and beyond.

FamiliesRock! proceeds from the Vallejo show went to Isaac's Family to help with expenses. We launched Isaac's Rock at this show after carrying it around Austin ~ it started its tour around the country leaving Austin with the FreerangeFamily to Houston. Families that are willing to help carry the Lehr Family burden will be involved in the relay. Please contact us if you are willing to help carry this burden.

Press Release

And that's how you put on a rock show for Famlies. Everyone should try this. It's very rewarding. It's been going on for centuries relative to the culture ~ the question is not why would you put kids in a bar? rather why would parents go without them? In the words of a wise Italian friend ~ we need to get back together.

Clifford Antone believed it ~ He's the reason FamiliesRock! can 'Get In' Antones telling us before his passing that 'the mamas and the babies should always be able to get in'.

We rode the red carpet this night ~ the backstage was open to all Families... (parents 'Get In' free).

Get In ~ and Get Back Together ~ back to working together.

learning together.

and playing together.

This show was for Isaac... for Isaac's Rock (the grape condom under his finger is a donation that he's going to keep).

The show was from Clifford... for the kids.

For the Mama's.

For the babies.

For the Families.

For the Peace & Love... and of course...

The ROCK N ROLL!

The show started with some great Rock n Roll through video projection because...

RIGHT NOW IS JUST A SPACE BETWEEN ICE AGES. (Van Halen)
<and thanks to Gibson for helping support FamiliesRock!>

And that's Nate chillin' between ice ages with Vallejo loading in and The James Speer Band on stage.

James Speer band is AMAZING! Tons of great feedback. We'll be following their shows and posting them on the calendar when Families can 'Get In'.

Anyone know who the guy with the camera and the 'VH1 News' hat was?

Perhaps he came with the guy in the kilt.

A real rock star signs autographs on the way in and the way out. Thanks Alex!

After James Speer, some more video dancing and craziness, we launched the rock... into the audience, and nobody got hurt!

So we got it back on stage...

with Isaac.

and his dirty trick.

Isaac's life may be shortened by his illness.

He has recognized his time on earth and where his values lie. His dirty trick?

Basically ~ what would you be doing with your last days on earth and why aren't you doing it Right Now?

The audience put some love into Isaac's rock.

Little Isaac joined us on stage.

With Naomi, Isaac's daughter.

Jenn rejoiced.

We cried a little (at least Greg did... anyone else?)

We introduced the next leg of Isaac's Rock to Houston with the FreeRangeFamily.

and then... GIVE IT UP FOR VALLEJO!

Lights dim...

fog rolls...

a heavy drumbeat fills the air...

The Lehr kids wonder what they've done... again.

And the traditional Vallejo chant to the drumbeat begins...

VUHH LAAAYYYY HO!!!

VUHH LAAAYYYY HO!!! VUHH LAAAYYYY HO!!!

VUHH LAAAYYYY HO!!! VUHH LAAAYYYY HO!!!

and Classico rocks the Families!

AJ, Zach, Alex...

Omar, and Jeff (congas below) will never let you down.

Total surprise performance from the MC Overlord himself!! (FamiliesRock organizers weren't even in the know).

Another surprise performance from AJ's nephew.

Rockin' the house before the audience screamed too loud for him when he revolted with a tirade of tears directed at the band before throwing down his guitar, smashing it, and stage diving into mommy's arms.

Faith jumped up to replace him.

And once again, Faith saves us.

Apparently, Faith works wonders.

And yes, that is Jacob Gonzales on guitar performing with Vallejo & Faith and her disciples. It was that crazy.

AJ and the kids getting down...

way down....

You got to get down to get up!

Jump!

Jump!

Air bass.

He stayed on the side and played all night. Good bass player. Lots of charisma. Is that a cord you're foot is tangled on?

That's a lanyard you're tangled on (actually two). Somebody's missing?

After the encore, it was like Vallejo daycare the way the kids followed them for autographs.

A great show.

Great after show party.

And a GREAT band. Friends. Brothers. Family.

Elijah, Salem, Brye, Jenn, Greg. FamiliesRock!

Alex, Trey (Greg's nephew), Greg.

Jacob Gonzales Brother and Mom Rock!

Johnna, Greg, Isaac, Jenn

Kelly Sumrall (FreeRangeFamily dad) taking the rock to houston and beyond.

Good luck Rock.
